ReVamp Electronics Foundation
After several years of distributing and repairing consumer electronics worldwide, we feel that it's time to give back to our community, society and planet. This is why in 2012 we will form the ReVamp Electronics Foundation (R.E.F.). Five percent of all purchases made on iReVampElectronics.com will go towards funding the foundation. This foundation will be based upon 3 basic principles.
1. To help spread awareness and educate individuals about the negative outcomes of eWaste
2. To help properly recycle consumer electronics so they don't end up in our landfills
3. To donate refurbished electronics to various communities around the world
The Dangers of eWaste
Electronic waste or "eWaste" makes up five percent of all municipal solid waste worldwide. That's almost the same amount as plastic packaging waste, except eWaste is much more hazardous. Unfortunately, electronic waste is not only being discarded in developed countries. In Asia, an estimated 12 million tons of eWaste accumulates each year. These hazardous materials are now the fastest growing component of the municipal solid waste stream because people are upgrading their electronic devices more frequently than ever. Mobile phones, computers, televisions, and other entertainment devices are causing the biggest problem because they are replaced most often.
Recycling Consumer Electronics and Giving Back
Technology is now advancing at an exponential rate and as a result, consumers are constantly upgrading their electronic devices and disposing of the old ones incorrectly. One goal at R.E.F will be to help consumers find a better home for their old devices. We will accept all devices that you wish to donate, either broken or working. As for the higher-end items, we will make a solid cash offer to take them off your hands. We also plan to implement a tagging protocol for all donations. This would allow you to track exactly what happens to your device, whether it's recycled locally or refurbished and handed down to someone else. We think people will feel better knowing their individual contribution has actually benefited the earth and human kind!
